Terms of Service
Last updated: May 16, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using the Smart Home Security Scorecard at risk.secureiot.house ("the Tool"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the Tool.
2. Nature of the Tool
The Smart Home Security Scorecard is an educational, self-assessment tool designed to help property owners identify potential security gaps in their smart home systems. It is provided free of charge with no registration required.
This Tool is not:
- A professional security audit or penetration test
- A legal compliance assessment or certification
- A guarantee of security or immunity from breaches
- Legal or regulatory advice of any kind
- A substitute for consultation with a qualified cybersecurity professional
Results and recommendations are based on your self-reported answers and general industry best practices. They should be used as a starting point for further investigation, not as a definitive security determination.
3. Data Handling
All assessment data is processed entirely client-side in your browser. We do not collect, receive, store, or have any access to your assessment responses, scores, or results. Assessment progress is saved only to your browser's localStorage on your device. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
4. AI Surveillance and Biometric Privacy Disclaimer
The 2026 edition of this Tool includes assessment questions related to AI-powered surveillance systems, facial recognition, behavioural analytics, and biometric access control. This Tool does not process biometric data and makes no determination about your compliance with biometric privacy laws.
If you operate AI surveillance systems, you are solely responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable laws, including but not limited to the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA), the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and any other applicable federal, state, or local legislation. We provide no legal advice on this matter.
5. No Guarantee of Security
Smart home security is complex, continuously evolving, and dependent on factors outside our knowledge or control. We strive to provide accurate, up-to-date guidance based on 2026 industry best practices, but we cannot guarantee that:
- Our recommendations address every vulnerability in your specific environment
- Following our recommendations will prevent security incidents or breaches
- Our scoring accurately reflects your actual security posture
- The guidance remains current as threats and technologies evolve
6. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Secure IoT House and its affiliates, officers, employees, agents, and licensors shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive, or exemplary damages arising from:
- Your use of or reliance on the Tool or its recommendations
- Any security incident, breach, or loss occurring in your smart home systems
- Inaccuracies in self-reported assessment answers
- Third-party services or products referenced in the Tool
7. Third-Party Links and Resources
The Tool contains links to related resources, including sister properties within the Secure IoT House / CyberAdX network and external security resources.
